Activities in 1996          1995  1997

On this page you will find illustrated reports of some of our activities during 1996.  These are mainly in addition to our main meetings and shack nights.  The most recent activities are at the top of the page.

2nd National Novice Contest

Poole Radio Society organised and sponsored the 2nd National Novice Contest, which took place on Sunday 22nd September.  It was pleasing to report that entries were up on last year and to welcome the many new entrants.  The number of entries represented under half of the Novice calls appearing in entries and check logs.  The increased level of support from other stations this year was very noticeable, with many more going out portable or operating from their shacks to give points away.  Thank you!

Band conditions seemed about average, but the level of activity was without doubt much higher than last year, with reports of most of the 70cm fm simplex channels in use in the London area during the contest.  Distances of over 160 kilometres (100 miles) were worked this year by some stations, showing just what can be worked with QRP on the VHF bands.  The later start this year was also appreciated.

Logging standards were generally high, although again some entrants were not sufficiently careful in sending or logging /P and /M suffixes to callsigns, reports, and locations.
